Shawnda Brunson

Mrs. Brunson is a 1989 graduate of Saluda High School. While at SHS, she was a member of the first class of Teacher Cadets under the late Dr. Bela Herlong and decided to pursue a career in education. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education from Lander University and continued her studies at Columbia College where she earned a Master’s in Divergent Learning. Her first teaching position was a summer job with GLEAMNS Migrant Head Start in 1994 followed by more than 10 years in teaching at the middle school level where she supported students in math, later becoming a math instructional coach in Lexington School District 4. She earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University and begin a career in school administration in Lexington School District 3 before returning to Saluda County schools in 2013. She is excited to begin her 30th year in education working with the students, teachers and parents at Saluda Opportunity Academy. She believes that all children can be successful with the support of caring adults. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, quick getaways and clearance shopping at outlet malls.
